Occupational Therapy for Young People (12+) and Adults, with Megan O’Malley, Occupational Therapist

Sensory Profiling Assessments

Many neurodivergent people experience sensory processing and regulation differences that can play a big role in their everyday lives, in both positive and not so positive ways.

A sensory profiling assessment is a comprehensive evaluation which seeks to understand how an individual processes and responds to sensory information from their environment. This assessment explores how an individual’s body experiences the world through the senses, including touch, sight, sound, taste, smell, movement, body awareness (proprioception) and our internal awareness

We aim to identify sensory processing strengths, as well as challenges that may affect participation, such as difficulties with concentration, motor skills, emotional regulation, or social interaction.

This is particularly helpful for Autistic and ADHD individuals and those who are otherwise neurodivergent.

The Sensory Profile Assessment has 4 parts:

  • One In-person Assessment (Practical Exploration/Play-Based)

  • Online assessments to be completed in between sessions

  • One Outcome and Strategies Exploration Session (online or in person)

  • Report including Guidelines and Recommendations

Cost: €420

If additional sessions are required they are charged at the OT intervention rate.

Step by Step Guide to the Sensory Profiling Process

Step 1: Book an Assessment

Go to Book an Assessment and fill in the contact form. You will be asked to sign a GDPR form so that we can legally hold your/ your family’s information.

Step 2: Consent Forms

We will contact you via email and you will be invited to fill out consent forms and a form about you/ your young person’s strengths, needs and development. Your name will go on a waiting list.

Step 3: Assessment Dates

When your/your young person’s name is near the top of the waiting list, we will email you with dates for the assessment that suit you and you will be asked to pay a €200 deposit to secure the assessment dates.

Step 4: The Explore Together ADHD Consultation

The assessment/discovery process:

There are 3 elements to this, including 2 appointments:

1.The Assessment Session: Megan meets with you (or your young person) for a practical exploration assessment and discussion. This involves you exploring various sensory equipment whilst Megan observes your responses and way of being.

You can attend on your own or bring a supportive family member. This takes approximately 75 minutes.

2. Online Sensory Profile: You are invited to complete The Sensory Profile assessment online, which may take 30-45 minutes for you to fill out. You may need support from someone close to you. This part allows Megan to learn about your (or your young person’s) unique sensory profile which will show how you or your young person’s sensory experience is impacting on your/their engagement with your/their environment and activities.

Megan will receive the online forms when you have submitted them and review them to support her to make sense of your own unique sensory processing profile and way of being.

3. The Outcome and Strategies Exploration Session: Megan meets with you/your young person (and someone close to you) to explore the outcome of the assessment and strategies that work for  your way of being. This takes approximately 1 hour.

Step 5: Draft copy of the report and final report

Following our outcome exploration meeting with you (approximately 2-4 weeks later), we send you a draft PDF copy of the report and we invite revisions. We then send you a PDF of the final report which is accepted by HSE and Dept. of Education

Sensory Processing Assessment Payment

We spread the payment for the assessment over 3 time points that are paid via our secure online system:

  • €200 deposit to secure the assessment

  • €110 due on the day of your first session

  • €110 due on the day of your Outcome Exploration session

Please let us know if you would like the cost spread out over more instalments and we will be happy to work with you on an arrangement.

What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational Therapy (OT) is a person-centred therapy which supports and empowers people to live a life that is meaningful to them.

The OT approach advocates that being able to participate in daily activities (occupations) gives our life meaning, impacting positively on our overall health and wellbeing.

It considers the person and the environment in which they live and how they can be supported to participate fully in what is important to them.

It works collaboratively to develop people’s capacity for growth, developing transferable life skills to cope with life’s inevitable changes and challenges.
