Welcome to The Butterfly Practice

We are a multidisciplinary team of neuro-diversity informed clinicians committed to providing best practice, neuro-affirmative Autistic and ADHD Discoveries/assessments in the North West of Ireland and beyond.

Our approach

We embrace the Neuro-Diversity Affirmative approach to Autism and ADHD.

This means that we see Autism and ADHD not as ‘disorders’ but as different neuro-types that are a natural part of the many different ways the human brain can be wired.

If you are a parent/guardian, we work with you and your child to discover their neuro-type through our evidence-based, child centred Autistic or ADHD Discoveries/assessments.

If you are an adult, we work with you on a process to explore your neuro-type through our evidence-based collaborative Autistic or ADHD Discoveries/assessments, holding you central to the discovery from start to finish.

Holding your way of being, or you child’s way of being at the heart of what we do.

I’m Dr Julie Meehan, Clinical Director and Chartered Principal Clinical Psychologist at The Butterfly Practice.

I am so passionate about supporting people to discover their neuro-type that I founded The Butterfly Practice in 2023 to specialise in offering Autistic and ADHD discoveries to children, young people and adults that hold them and their way of being at the heart of what we do.

What we do

If you are a parent/guardian, our discoveries/assessments support you and your child to learn more about how their brain works so that you both can gain a deeper understanding of their neuro-type and how they experience and perceive themselves and the world.

We recognise your child’s amazing strengths whilst also identifying the significant needs and challenges that they may encounter in a world that doesn’t always value or support neuro-diversity.

If you are an adult, we do the very same thing (without the children :) : We support you to discover your brain-type so that you can know yourself more deeply - your brain, your nervous system, your ways of being in this world.

Our discoveries/assessments align with best practice guidelines and our reports/supporting documentation are accepted by organisations such as the HSE and Department of Education, as well as higher level institutions.
